(WINTOUR! 😂). that 2.5 year lockdown drought was TOO LONG, and i wanna make up for lost time! i'm gonna diversify the setlist from the last run, play more songs from my new album, boston accent, dig deeper into beneath these fireworks (happy 20th, BTF! 🎂), get to cities we missed last fall… ALL THE GOOD THINGS!!

NEW ALBUM: 'Boston Accent' - OUT NOW

MY NEW ALBUM, BOSTON ACCENT, IS NOW OUT IN THE WORLD!!!

2 years after it was finished, it’s launched… hallelujah!

it feels brand new AND like a time capsule all at once.

i wanted to make a real singer/songwriter record this time. an “inspired by cat stevens, joni mitchell, paul simon, tom petty” kinda record… which is something i’ve been running away from since Ernst. i realize now that this whole album is about acceptance. whether it’s the cover photo (where i’m looking INTO the camera… which i’ve never done), or the songs (paying SERIOUS homage to my massachusetts roots), or the song arrangements (with me & my acoustic guitar at the center)… it’s about taking what i used to see as my "limitations” and leaning into them as strengths (thanks covid!). it’s kinda nerve wracking, tbh. but, it’s also a long time coming. (though i am only 28.)

the record was done with my friend Butch Walker right before, then right in the throes of, lockdown. i went home from his studio one weekend & didn’t go back again for a year & 1/2. twilight zone-city.

i’ve never made a real "singer/songwriter” record like this... a nod to my favorites: paul simon, cat stevens, indigo girls, joni, carole king… i wanted it to be a VIBE... something you could put on and listen to top to bottom, with big focus on the lyrics.

we’ve pulled together some rad, LIMITED EDITION BOSTON ACCENT pre-sale bundles… PINK VINYL❤️!!

and the vinyl / CD have 2 totally different covers & layouts.

it was dreamed up by the insanely talented bill long of moss moon studio, who i’ve been lucky enough to be friends with since we met @ sleep away camp in 1982.

there are so many elements working in harmony in this.. the fade ins & outs, the subtle nods to new england... before he made the video, bill interviewed me about the song and i find new details every time i watch it. it's made with total love and mastery...

i especially love that he included sylvester & mr. beasley, who left our family in 2020 & 2022. we miss the shit out of both of them so much. it’s a gift to have them forever immortalized here.

since the start of this craziness back in march, i've been donating a bunch of my energy & time to a non-profit organization called The Sidewalk Project.

they do AMAZING work in support of the houseless community. they are a small group of humans doing a REAL heavy lift... and the only way they survive is through people’s (tax deductible) donations.

i've started a fundraising campaign for them called THE SIDEWALK PROJECT X MATT NATHANSON & i'm matching every dollar you donate, up to $50,000.

i was fortunate to spend time doing service with them, pre-(re)lockdown, and it was INCREDIBLY inspiring. we also created a video together to showcase some of the amazing work they do.

online concert event with a twist!

in the spirit of Live in Paradise: Boston and everyone assembling their own playlists from the 61 live tracks, i wanted to do a special kind of concert event to celebrate the release. so, on FRIDAY, AUGUST 21st, with my dear (socially distanced) right hand man Aaron Tap, i'll be playing an online show... with a twist.

the twist?: i want YOU to dream up the setlist that we play!

THE GUIDELINES / DETAILS:

- the concert is FREE for anyone who bought/buys the super duper vinyl bundle from my webstore (they are available HERE.). for all other beautiful folks, tickets are only 15$ (available HERE). we will email tickets to you with the link prior to the show.

- when creating your dream setlist, please only use songs from LIVE IN PARADISE : BOSTON (regular edition & bonus songs) & Live at The Point. - that said, if you felt like including 2 or 3 of my songs that AREN’T on those records, you won’t be penalized for your passion... put those in the ENCORE!

halloween (my favorite time of year!) is behind us, sadly, but that can only mean one thing: the almost 2 month wind-up to the other “most wonderful time of the year” has begun! yep, that’s right- soon people are gonna be "ho, ho, ho"-ing everywhere we look. so this year, i decided to officially get in on some of that action by going into the studio and recording a couple of holiday classics just for you!

first up is my cover of the amazing darlene love/phil spector via U2 holiday smash, "christmas (baby, please come home).”

and to balance that out, we brought it down to piano and strings for joni mitchell’s heartbreaking, magical “river.”

sf sketchfest

SF Sketchfest is my favorite two weeks of the year… san francisco gets overrun by the best comedians on the planet and it's constant, wall to wall funny! i'm SUPER PSYCHED to be a part of the festival again this year. i'll be making two appearances:

first, i’ll be telling a story and singing a song as part of an amazing line up for “bring the rock!”… it’s kinda like comedian karaoke. i’ve done it a bunch of times over the last few years and i ALWAY end up laughing so hard i cry. it’s friday, january 25th @ 7pm @ the swedish american.

next up, i'll be musical guest / ed mcmahon for a live taping of janet varney's JV Club podcast. the other guests are being announced in the next week or so, but janet runs Sketchfest, so she always gets amazing guests and we always have a total blast. it’s sunday, jan 27th @ 1pm @ gateway theatre.

acoustic tour updates!!

most of the feb/march acoustic headline tour is sold out (which totally rules, btw!)… i know it was frustrating to a lot of you that some of the shows sold out as fast as they did… truthfully, it took us by surprise... so we went back to see what we could do to make more tickets available. we were able to do a couple things:

- we added a 2nd show in boston. get tix

- we added a 2nd show in san francisco. get tix 

- we moved the ORLANDO SHOW to a larger venue and it is the ONLY FLORIDA SHOW on this whole tour (and it’s a saturday night which is perfect for a lil’ roadtrip… you feelin’ me jacksonville / tampa /miami / etc.) get tix 

also, there is a low ticket warning for a handful of the shows that aren’t yet sold out… so, if you plan on coming, don’t sleep on getting tickets. this tour is gonna be SUPER fun (we will be bringing out the song wheel again!) and all the shows are definitely gonna go clean. so head on over and get tickets HERE

"Sings His Sad Heart" // OUT NOW!!

big day.

i called the album “sings his sad heart” because i was trying to be funny about the fact that almost all the songs are about loss. i don’t know why either, because my life is real full of beauty these days. not a lot of loss going on. i guess i’ve got some deep seated stuff i still need to work on... or maybe i got it all out with these songs. who knows, we’ll see.

i’m proud of this record. i’m proud of all of them, actually, but this one is the only one i've ever made that i like listening to. so that’s real fun! from the first claps of “mine” to the reverbed out background vocals in “sadness,” i still get swept up in it. most of the time, when i listen, i forget it’s me. my inner assassins take a nap and i can just enjoy it. that's probably the highest compliment i can give the album…. i forget i’m involved. ha.

"my friend lynn said “your problem is you let other people's music save you, but you don’t let your own music save you.” harsh but true. i’m working on it, though, lynn. and this feels like a good first step."
